The town of Worcester, Worcester, South Africa, 1930

1930

"Blick auf das Städtchen Worcester." ("View of the little town Worcester."). In the foreground are railway tracks and wagon trains. On the right probably a train station. On the center left stands a three-storied building. Written on the building with dark capital letters on a white strip. " WORCESTER-MILLING-6°(?)". Next to the building on the left wooden shacks. In the background the houses and buildings of the town as well as trees. Three steeples in the center and on the left side of the picture. Mountains far in the background. Written on the card board: "Br. Baudert 1930." ("Br[other] Baudert 1930."). The picture was probably taken by Samuel Baudert (1879-1956), born as son of the missionary Samuel Baudert in South Africa. He was the mission director of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1924 to 1927 and since 1929 their bishop. It might also be possible that the picture was taken by Eugen Theodor Baudert (1876-1953) who worked as a lecturer at the theological seminar in Mvenyane.
