Two hunters with game birds, Nyanza province, Kenya, 1918

1918

“--- was repatriating askaris’. We did a little work and a lot of shooting. Here is Ian’s native sergeant with a guinea fowl and two duck.” Portrait of Capt. Irvine and an indigenous soldier with rifles and game birds. This is at a medical camp probably at the Yala River post in Kavirondo country. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
