"Ein Hottentotten-Häuptling." ("A Hottentot chief."). The picture shows the head and the upper part of the body of an old man of African origin. He wears a beard and probably a scarf around his neck. He is not shown from a direct front perspective but a bit from his left side. Imprinted on the image: "Hottentottenhäuptling. S. A. W. 564." ("Hottentot chief. S[outh] A[frica] W[est]. 564."). Photography faded. -- The photo was taken in the Western part of South Africa.
