“Mothers house and the ladies.” Group portrait of a European woman with indigenous men and women. The woman is Mrs Louisa Carr, wife of Ernest Carr (1868-1939) and mother of Margaret Irvine, who moved into a small cottage on the Chogoria mission after the death of her husband in 1939. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1947 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
