“Our African Church aims at a high standard of Christian living, as you will see below. Above, the school filing into the church for enquirers class.” Exterior view of the old mud and wattle church where students are lining up to enter. The first church at Chogoria was erected in June 1923, it had a distinctive ventilation shaft with a small roof, and it was replaced in 1930 by a new brick building. ❧ Image from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the early years of the Chogoria mission, established near Mt Kenya in 1922 and run by Dr Irvine, ministering to the Chuka and Mwimbi peoples.
