Group of people on a farm, Mamre, South Africa, 1930

1930

"Farbige Christen bei einem Farmer nahe Mamre." ("African Christians at a farmer's near Mamre."). Eight children and seven adults. Most of the children are sitting on the ground with a dog to their right. Of the seven adults six are women. Three are wearing white dresses, the others darker dresses. Most of them are wearing a hat. The man is wearing a dark suit and a dark hat. Trees and a building in the background. The picture was probably taken by Samuel Baudert (1879-1956), born as son of the missionary Samuel Baudert in South Africa. He was the mission director of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1924 to 1927 and since 1929 their bishop. It might also be possible that the picture was taken by Eugen Theodor Baudert (1876-1953) who worked as a lecturer at the theological seminar in Mvenyane.
