"Sondagskloof: der neben der Kirche wohnende Kirchenälteste. Links Br. Tietzen." ("Sondagskloof: the church elder who lives next to the church. [On] [the] left Br[other] Tietzen."). The picture shows an African man with a hat and a dark colored suit. His left hand holds his right wrist. Next to him on the left a man of European origin with a hat and a dark colored suit. He wears glasses. In the background a fence made of wire. Behind it a house and probably a garden. Written on the card board: "17.2.34. P. Theile." Gustav Theodor Tietzen (1893-1973) was born in Berthelsdorf near Herrnhut and worked as a missionary in Elim and Moravian Hill (Cape Town) from 1922 to 1927 and in East Africa from 1927 to 1939. He later returned to South Africa West to work as a missionary from 1959 to 1960 before he went back to Germany.
