"Bruder und Schwester Schreve beim Abgang von Goedverwacht" ("Brethren Schreve before leaving Goedverwacht"). The elderly couple Schreve. Only the upper part of their bodies is photographed. The persons on the picture are probably Theodor Schreve and his wife Mary. -- Theodor Schreve was born in Marvitz, Germany in 1860. He worked as a teacher until his marriage to Mary Sofia Larsen, a teacher and later a missionary, in 1887. From 1887-97 he worked as a missionary for the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine in the Himalaya. In 1904 he went to work as a missionary in South Africa until 1914. He started off in Elim and Mamre in 1904, From 1905-06 he was stationed in Goedverwacht, then from 1906-09 in Wittekleibosch and finally, from 1909-13 in Genadendal, where he was Director of the assistants' school. In 1914 he was on home leave. Schreve retired in 1924 and went back to South Africa. He died in 1930 in Genadendal. -- Since the picture shows the couple just before they left Goedverwacht, it must have been taken around 1906.
