Printers' House, Genadendal, South Africa, 1934

1934

"Gnadental. Druckerei-Gebäude. Kranke warten auf Behandlung bei Br. Schmidt." ("Genadendal. Printers' house. Sick persons are waiting for treatment by Br[other] Schmidt."). A two-storyed european-style house. In front of it several Africans. Brother Schmidt could be Brother Rudolf Schmidt born in 1872 in Elim, South Africa. Worked as locksmith in Genadendal, South Africa. Married in 1902 Anna Schmitt in Upper Paarl near Kapstadt. From 1901 missionary in South Africa West. From 1904 in Sea View. Died 1963 in unknown location. -- The mission print office in Genadendal was an important tool in distributing religious materials to the population, brother Schmidt's own works seem to have been duplicated here. -- The title does not clearly indicate whether the sick are waiting for treatment at Brother Schmidt's workplace or if they are waiting to be treated by him.
