"Ordinationsfeier Pfingsten 1934 in Shigatini: nach der Feier" ("Ordination service, Pentecoste 1934 in Shigatini: after the service"). A crowd led by the African ministers and three Europeans (amongst them probably Rother and Guth) coming from the church. Another crowd gathered in front of the church. Cf. photos nos. 1163 and 1167, album no. 3. -- Paul Emil Rother (1878-1956), from Burkhardtsdorf in Saxony, learned weaving before joining the Leipzig Mission as a pastor. He served in Shigatini from 1902 to 1904 and in Gonja from 1904 to 1914, only interrupted by home leave in 1912/1913. When the First World War broke out in 1914, he was called up to the colonial troops for border protection. In 1917 he was interned by the British. He returned to Germany in 1919. -- Wilhelm Guth (1888-1980), from Zeiskam in the Rhineland Palatinate, studied commerce before joining the Leipzig Mission as a pastor. He served in Gonja (southern Pare) from 1913 to 1917 and from 1927 to 1938. He left a large number of photographs, mostly taken by himself but including some by members of his family or fellow missionaries.
