Military post, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, March 1918

1918

“A nearer view of a post, with ambulance cars. Note types of huts Europeans lived in, very cool and simple to build, tho’ somewhat primitive.” Exterior view of thatched huts next to a road with two vehicles on the opposite side. This is a post and supply dump that Capt. Irvine passed on his way to set up a carrier clearing hospital at Ancuabe. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
