“A.N.M.C. lining up for repatriation.” Street scene showing members of the African Native Medical Corps (ANMC) in a long line that ends in the distance. The ANMC was mainly made up from Ugandans and the unit was demobbed in July 1919, this is possibly in Port Amelia [Pemba] in Portuguese East Africa [Mozambique]. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
