First Mwimbi baptisms, Chogoria, Kenya, September, 1924

“The first baptism’s with Dr Arthur, Chogoria, Sept. 1924.” Group portrait Dr Arthur and Christian baptisees. The first eighteen Mwimbi Christians were baptised, by Dr John William Arthur (1881-1952) from Kikuyu, on 28 September 1924. Dr Irvine was not ordained until 1933 and certain duties were performed by ministers from Kikuyu or Tumutumu. ❧ This image is from the first years of the Chogoria mission in Kenya, which was run by the Rev. Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974), from the collection entitled ‘Chogoria, 1922. The early days.”
