Building a long hut, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, April 1918

1918

“In a long-stay camp our porters built themselves a long hut with one side open.” Landscape view showing men constructing a long hut in a wooded area. The Carrier Corps were essential in supplying the front line troops. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
