Officers accommodation, Ancuabe, Mozambique, March-April 1918

1918

“Officers huts with the Nigerians.” Exterior view of a thatched hut outside of which stands an indigenous man in uniform. The huts are part of the camp at Ancuabe where Capt. Irvine was posted to work at a Carrier Hospital. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
