"Das Haus des Häuptlings Mareale in Marangu" ("Chief Mareale's house in Marangu"). 16 standing and squatting men are gathered in front of a two storied building. They are all dressed in cloth outfits. Chief Mareale is the fifth on the left. He is dressed in a patterned cloth. Two young boys are sitting on the far right. Cf. photos no. 55(8) and 569 (album 9). -- The picture was probably taken by Johannes Schanz (1876-1963). He worked as a missionary of the Leipzig Mission in Moshi and Mamba from 1901 to 1910.
