Clearing ground for hospital camp, Ancuabe, Mozambique, March-April 1918

1918

“Clearing ground at Anquabe. Natives squatted in rows.” Landscape view showing rows of military personnel cutting brush. The land was being cleared for a Carrier Clearing Hospital where Capt. Irvine was stationed. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
