Lt. Irvine’s tent, Dodoma, Tanzania, July-November 1917

1917

“Interior of my tent at Dodoma where I was posted to Carrier Hospital after leaving Itigi. At first we had 3 in an E.P. tent. This was real luxury.” Interior of a tent with camp beds on the left and packing cases used as shelves. Lt. Irvine was transferred to Dodoma to work with at a casualty clearing station mainly treating African carriers. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
