An assistant, South Africa, 1930

1930

"Krügersdorp. Ein Krüppel, Helfer der Hermannsburger Mission." ("Krugersdorp. A cripple, assistant of the Hermannsburg Mission."). The picture probably shows Christoph Molate. He sits on a stool in the shadow of the house next to him on the left. His cloths are torn and is barefoot. The house wall is partly painted white. A window is next to the man on the right. On the right in the background trees and bushes. Cloths hanf on a fence. Written on the card board: "Br. Baudert 1930." ("Br[other] Baudert 1930."). The picture was probably taken by Samuel Baudert (1879-1956), born as son of the missionary Samuel Baudert in South Africa. He was the mission director of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1924 to 1927 and since 1929 their bishop. It might also be possible that the picture was taken by Eugen Theodor Baudert (1876-1953) who worked as a lecturer at the theological seminar in Mvenyane.
