Collecting water, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, 1918

1918

“Portuguese natives getting water in an almost dried up hole.” Landscape view showing thick vegetation and an indigenous man gathering water in a cup. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
