Rock hill, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, April-July 1918

1918

“Typical rock hill in P.E.A. These hills were often perfectly bare smooth rock.” Landscape view of an isolated rock formation rising out of the land. This was taken while Capt. Irvine was posted with a column of the 4/4 KAR in Portuguese East Africa. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
