Women crushing corn, South Africa

"Kafferfrauen stampfen Mais bei ihrer Hütte." ("Kaffir women crush corn next to their hut."). The picture shows two women of African origin standing around a high vessel. Both hold sticks in their hands to crush the corn. Both wear cloths tied around their heads. The one on the right wears a blanket, the woman on the left a dress with broad stripes at the bottom of it. On the right part of a hut with a thatched roof and an entrance door. In the entrance door part of a chicken. Behind the two women standing and next to the hut two more women and a couple of children sitting next to the hut entrance. Behind them a wooden fence. Imprinted on the image: "Kafferfrauen beim Mais-Stampfen. S. Afrika West. No. 652." ("Kaffir women crushing corn. S[outh] Africa. West. No. 652."). Photography faded. -- The photo was taken in the Western part of South Africa.
