Fish killed by mortar rounds, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, 1918

1918

“the fish the bomb’s killed.” Close up of fish collected in ammunition boxes and on plates. These fish were gathered after mortar rounds were fired at a lake during training exercises. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
