Unit head, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, April-July 1918

1918

“After a month here I was sent off to join a column of K.A.R’s & Nigerians who were following up von Lettow.” Landscape view showing officers and soldiers of the 4/4 King’s African Rifles walking along a path between trees. Capt. Irvine was attached to a column of the 4/4 KAR and Nigerian Brigade as a medical officer, particularly treating the men of the Carrier Corps. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
