Column moving off, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, April 1918

1918

“Off again.” Landscape view showing soldiers in a column watched by porters sitting to the side. The soldiers are probably from the 4/4 KAR who were moving South from Port Amelia [Pemba] and involved in skirmishes with the German forces. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
