Fishing on the Msalu River, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, May 1918

1918

“Fishing at Msalu.” Landscape view of a river with men fishing and in the background a bridge being crossed by porters. This is the 4/4 King’s African Rifles and the Nigerian Brigade column who were trailing the German forces South, through Portuguese East Africa. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
