He, presumably the teacher, seems to be hiding behind the door. In the background, next to the tree, two men are watching the scene. Dogs are roaming around the hut. Ernst Hermann Schnabel (1904-1953) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine and served in East Africa until the end of the 1930s. In 1934, he married Käthe Prellwitz in Kyimbila.
