"Zum Tanz versammelte Kaffern." ("Kaffirs gathered [in order] to dance."). The picture shows a group of 17 men and six women of African origin,standing in two rows. All are covered with blankets. The men standing on the right and the center hold wooden sticks and most of them wear hats or cloths tied around their heads. The women on the left side wear cloths tied around their heads, too. One man on the right is smoking a pipe. In the background the roof of a hut made of sticks and grass. Imprinted on the image: "Tanzende heidnische Kaffern. S. Afrika West. No. 650." ("Dancing heathen Kaffirs. S[outh] Africa West. No. 650."). Photography faded. -- The photo was taken in the Western part of South Africa.
