Malagasy men are seated beside them, probably carriers of the filanjana (Malagasy palanquin) which rests on the ground. David Morris Rees served the LMS in Madagascar from 1891 to 1925, at Ambohimandroso until 1903 and then at Ambalavao until 1919 when he was transferred to Ambohimahasoa. Anonymous print pasted on to numbered board, used by the London Missionary Society as visual resources for publications etc. Most images have limited hand written captions.
