"Übergang einer Reise-Karawane über den Kibila bei Makota 1892. Br. Tr. Bachmann, Br. Richard." ("A travelling caravan is crossing Kibila River near Makota 1892. Br[other] Tr[augott] Bachmann, Br[other] Richard."). Richard is carried by two men. The porters of the caravan are transporting equipment . Imprinted on the image: "über den Kiwira. Ost-Africa. No. 300" ("across the Kiwira. East-Africa. No. 300"). The name of the river was spelled "Kibila", "Kibira" and "Kiwira". Today the stream's name is Kiwira. It is situated near to the southern border of Tanzania near Malawi. -- Johann Traugott Bachmann (1865-1948) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. He served in the year 1892 in Makapalile and from November 1892 to 1899 in Rungwe. In June 1899 he founded the station in Mbozi where he served until 1911 and from 1913 until his internment in 1915. He was married to Elisabeth, née Künzel (1872-1949). -- William Théophile Jean Richard (1866 in Switzerland -- 1944) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1891 till 1905. He helped founding the mission station in Rungwe in 1891 and stayed there again in 1903. In 1893/94 he was chairman of the East Africa Mission and in 1897 he served in Ipiana. That same year he got married to Anna Richard (1876 in England -- 1963), née Feldmann, with whom he stayed in Nyasa until 1905 when she got sick and they, therefore, had to leave for Europe again.
