“Capt. Tomblings with the ANMC native officer, a relation of the king of Uganda.” Portrait of two officers standing in the African Native Medical Corps (ANMC) hospital camp. The ANMC arrived in Dar es Salaam in July 1917 and worked in conjunction with the RAMC. Capt. D G Tomblings was Assistant District Commissioner of the Uganda Protectorate and Adjutant of the ANMC, later he was principle of the Makerere College. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
