Edge Text: DIVIDED WITH LORD KITCHENER This pyramid-shaped gold bar was produced in the Transvaal in May 1901 during the final phase of the South African War (also known as the Second Boer War) between the British and the ancestors of European immigrants (Boers) of the South African Republic. The engravings on each surface indicate the close relationship between the British and European mining entrepreneurs and British military officials.
