Jail-keepers in the state of Brazil are permitted to ask 120 Reis per day for the sustenance of each slave in their jail. Jailers who do not comply with the prescribed quantity and quality of food are subject to punishment, for their transgressions and inhuman treatment of incarcerated slaves. Lest We Forget #167
