Most place names in Spanish, but some have Italian or French spellings. Roussin's statement of responsibility in French. Inscribed on p. [7]: "Augustin Roussin M'a feict dans la ville de Marseille." On inside front cover: "Dated by M. Marcel Destombes as probably about 1620, made by the elder Augustin Roussin." Bound in full calf leather case with blind and gold tooled lines, corner decoration and central lozenge. Text block consists of eight parchment folios, with renderings of six maps, adhered back-to-back with a pasteboard core between each. Coat of arms of either Emmanuel Philibert or Charles Emmanuel I, Dukes of Savoy, on first page; graphite drawing on last page. Manuscript portolan atlas containing six maps: Brazil and the south Atlantic Ocean -- South America with the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans -- Mediterranean region -- Northeast North America and North Atlantic Ocean -- Southern Africa with the Pacific and Indian Oceans -- North America and the Caribbean Area.
