The Mourides Brotherhood, founded by Ahmadu Bamba in the late 19th century, is the largest Moslem brotherhood in Senegal, and the region around Touba is the main peanut growing area in Senegal. The Mourides constitute a unique religious organization in that it not only caters to the religious needs of its followers, but also encourages them to become efficient peanut producers. As a reult, it has brought prosperity to many of its followers.
