The Italian , with Marshal Badoglio ( now Viceroy of the captured territory ) at their head , marched into a town , looted and burned by the inhabitants and shiftas ( brigands ) who seized the chance to rob in the interval between the Emperor ' s flight and the entry of the invading forces . _x000D_
