Programmes were broadcast daily in the afternoon for four weeks beginning 5 May 1952. The vision signal was transmitted from Alexandra Palace on a special wavelength and sound conveyed to the selected schools by land line. This photograph is from 'Black and White in an African Village'. Regular television for schools did not start in the UK until May 1957. Information: Six schools in Middlesex were chosen to receive the first experimental television programmes for schools in May 1952. Original language summary:
