Times Season of Celebration!

2019

2019 has been a year of remarkable growth for the GALA Queer Archive. [...] We were continuously commended for our integrative and restorative model of an archive - one that is rooted in the past but also sowing seeds in the pres- ent for growth in the future. [...] I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of GALA and the work we do. [...] We also explored effective accountability mechanisms and created a network of engaged organisations to advocate for, and champion for change in uni- versities across the world. [...] GALA extends our condolences to Mogamat’s friends and family and the greater District Six community.5 TIMES GALA Archive Spotlight: Collection Revisited – Shay McLaren “Walking down Eloff Street in a pair of trousers and short hair, I might as well have been topless! [...] I work mostly with institutions of higher learning where I assist in the formulation and implemen- tation of policies for transgender diversity and inclusion. [...] I find the festive season to be a time for reflection - to ponder over the path I have walked during the year, and to evaluate whether or not I have lived (and not just existed). [...] I still wonder how it is that people who choose to be who they are, to love the way they do and to ex- press their truth, find themselves in a pool of unjustified hatred that somehow makes its way into the coffers of legislation in many parts of the world.
